The origin of Pitch Black™

It all started with a road trip from Connecticut to California. Wyoming caught my attention. I fell in love. Not only with the mountains and beautiful scenery, but the absolute isolation. All I could think was… there’s so much emptiness. ANYTHING could happen.

That’s all it took.

2 years later, and I watched as my writing kept getting darker and darker. I kept coming back to Wyoming. Back to a slave who wanted her story told. To do this, I had to face myself. My true self.

Writing has always been my therapy, but to take this step was something I knew I might not be ready for. I decided to try anyway. If I was going to go all in with this story, I promised myself I wouldn’t hold back. That I would stay true to the words that came, no matter what. I was NOT prepared for how dark it would get. I knew I exceeded the dark. This wasn’t even comparable to the dark romance that was published back in 2016. I also knew that this was not romance anymore. I had stepped into the horror genre, and there was no going back. I found that out as I threw myself into writing. By the time I finished and started into other A. A. Dark series, I realized I had reached levels of darkness that were more than one shade of black. From there, in 2017, my 3 TIERS of DARKNESS™ was born. But not just as a brand. It was part of a dream. One so big, I’m still striving to get there.

That dream: Mad Girl Publishing.

Someday, I hope to open this world and tier system up to other authors who sign under Mad Girl. Authors, who believe in my brand. Those, who feel pride in the tiers above. This brand is more than words. IT’S MORE THAN MY RATING SYSTEM. It’s a promise I made to myself in those treacherous moments of healing. It’s a hope that my stories, no matter how dark, continue to help those who have dealt with the depths of trauma and tragedy I have.
